For bakeries, cafés and kitchens that make food fresh
Know exactly what to make tomorrow.
Dough looks at what you sold, the weather and what’s coming up, and has tomorrow’s bake and prep list waiting for you every morning. You sell out less, throw away less, and stop guessing at 5 a.m.
The demo is a real bakery’s history, ready to click around. No sign-up.
What it is: one simple app for three moments of your day
No new hardware and no spreadsheets. Your team uses it on the phone, tablet or computer you already have, and it gets better with every day you close out.
Count what’s left
At closing, whoever’s on shift taps in what’s left and what sold out (and roughly when). If you use Square, the sales fill themselves in.
- Works at the counter, the stall or the back door
- Staff sign in with a 4-digit PIN, and there’s no training
- Leftovers can go to a local food bank in one tap
Tomorrow’s list is waiting
Dough works out how many of each item to make for every shop, stall or kitchen, and tells you why in plain words: “Saturdays run 18% busier”, “rain tomorrow”, “it sold out by noon last week”.
- Keep your own numbers if you like. Dough learns from them, or blends them with its own
- Holidays and local events flagged ahead of time
- Print it or pin it on a tablet in the kitchen
Know what you have, and what to order
From your recipes and tomorrow’s plan, Dough knows how much butter, flour and eggs you’ll use, when each one runs out, and drafts the order to your supplier in time.
- Snap a photo of a delivery invoice and stock and prices update themselves
- Paste your recipes from a spreadsheet
- See when a supplier raises a price
See where the money went
Sales, food cost, what you threw away and what you missed by selling out, for each location and each item. The numbers you’d want if you had time to add them up.
Tested on a real bakery, not a promise
We replayed four years of one bakery’s sales, 12 market stalls and a café, predicting each period only from what came before it.
more margin than making the same as that day last week, ahead in every period tested.
more margin than a same-day 4-week average, the usual spreadsheet method.
for an experienced owner who keeps typing their own numbers and lets Dough adjust them, with fewer leftovers.
Margin here means sales minus the cost of what was made, including what was thrown away. On a busy bakery a point or two is thousands of dollars a year. Your results will depend on your business; the app shows you the same test on your own history once you’ve closed out a few weeks.
Works with what you already have
Setup takes an afternoon, not a project.
Your sales
Connect Square in a minute (read-only, nothing in Square changes), or upload an export from Toast or any till. No history? Start from your usual quantities.
Your recipes
Paste them from a spreadsheet, or type them in. Dough works out the cost of every item from the prices on your invoices.
Your team
Each person gets a 4-digit PIN for the shared tablet, so you always know who counted what. Add your managers as users of their own.
- Up to 3 shops, cafés or kitchens included, $29 a month for each one after that
- Market stalls and pop-up events are free, however many you run
- Everything included: plans, close-outs, ingredients and orders, invoice scanning, money
- Your data is yours: export it any time, and it’s never sold or shared
Questions owners ask
Do I need Square?
No. Square just saves you typing, because sales fill themselves in. Without it, your team enters what’s left at close in about a minute, and you can upload past sales from any till as a spreadsheet.
What if I don’t agree with a number?
Change it. You’re always in charge of what gets made. Dough notes what you changed and what happened, and you can switch on “Your number + Dough” to blend your judgement with its forecast, which did best of all in our tests.
How long until it’s useful?
From the first day if you connect Square or upload past sales. With no history, it starts from your usual quantities and gets sharper every week you close out.
Is it only for bakeries?
It’s built for anything made ahead and sold fresh: bread and pastry, a café’s case, sandwiches, salads, soups, prepared food. Made-to-order dishes still count toward ingredients and ordering.
Is my data safe?
Your data is only ever used to run your business’s plans. It’s encrypted, never sold, and you can export or delete everything at any time. See our privacy policy and the services we use.
